What is Direct Access?
Traditionally barristers only took on cases that are referred to them by solicitors; this has changed and barristers can accept cases directly from members of the public in cases deemed suitable for direct access. Each case will initially involve an assessment of whether the case is suitable for direct access. Mr Hassan Sarwar is registered as a direct access barrister and can accept cases directly from members of the public in his area of expertise.
In a divorce case this may include involvement representing interveners, often family members who it is said hold a legal or beneficial interest in a property subject to financial remedy proceedings.
